The Metropole Hotel

Connecting together timeless traditions, a centuries-old legacy, and the warmth of its famous welcome, The Metropole Hotel has one of the most enduring exterior designs in Cork city.

The hotel’s striking Victorian architecture is a favourite amongst locals, a core element of Cork’s skyline, and a particular hot spot each time the Jazz Festival comes around. Its offerings of location and elegance within minutes’ walk from Patrick’s Street is unrivalled.

Limelight Media Approach

Charged with creating a full new brand identity for a household establishment, the Limelight Media design team started by understanding the history and character of the hotel. In gaining an insight into the authentic ‘Met’ experience as well as considering future strategic objectives within Ireland’s competitive hospitality industry, our designers delved into colour palettes, details that exude luxury, and explored how to bring The Metropole’s core essence into a broad range of brand identity requirements.

The hotel’s history meant developing a rich visual identity through the utilisation of deep greens and warm gold, inspired by a meticulously crafted illustration of the premise’s external features. The new logo, typography, fonts, and brand pattern reflect values of quality and warmth within a vibrant and bustling hospitality destination.

Impact

Having created a new core set of visual designs for The Metropole, the Limelight Media team extended the branding strategy across a range of materials required by the hotel and its staff team.

From headed paper and golden-stamped envelopes, to business cards, door signage, and welcome notes, the hotel’s new look and feel is impeccably integrated across the business – underpinning its positioning as one of the first places to stay while in Cork.

Taking such a strategic approach is the most effective way to ensure the consistency that will embed the new visual identity over time, becoming intrinsically recognisable as what The Metropole Hotel stands for in its own right – quality, elegance, and impact.
